All you need to know about RSS

What does RSS mean?

RSS may mean three different things. The original RSS (RDF Site Summary RSS 0.9) was developed by Dan Libby for Netscape. After a couple of months, they produced a simpler and easier-to-use version called Rich Site Summary or RSS 0.91. But they later lost interest, leaving it without an owner. As more and more users were using RSS, Winer made an adapted version of RSS 0.91 for Userland, claiming it as his own. Later in 2005, Microsoft developed Really Simple Syndication in relation to its Simple Sharing Extensions.

What is RSS?

RSS is a XML file format for syndicating content and news in the web. It is usually used by websites that constantly need to update their content regularly such as news websites (CNN, BBC and Reuters) and weblogs. Since it essentially gives one’s webpage more traffic, it is now more widely used in marketing, web publications and virus reports. Today, large and small websites alike are usually RSS-enabled.

For example, you’re an avid fan of baseball and you want to share something recent about one of the players. Other than content, you can also attach multimedia files, like videos or pictures. By using RSS feeds, other Internet users subscribed to RSS-enabled sites can read your “headline” for free. They can also track for changes and updates using news aggregators, which will be discussed later on.

How does RSS work?

To be able to use RSS, you first have to download a software (content management system), by which XML format can be read. The title and, excerpt of the article, and a link to the full article are shown. Other than just text, you can also insert multimedia files in RSS feeds like pictures, videos, mp3s and others. Broadcatching, picturecasting, photocasting, and podcasting are some features you can incorporate into your feed, but will not be discussed in this article.

For users to access a RSS feed, they need to use an aggregator or a feed reader. An aggregator searches for updates on RSS-enabled webpages then displays it. It can either be a standalone program or a web browser extension, depending on your operating system. Search engines for web content broadcasted over RSS feed are also available such as Plazoo and Feedster.

How can I make an RSS feed?

It is definitely easier to make an RSS feed if you know HTML. If not, you could sign up for a blog (there are hundreds out there), some of which automatically creates RSS. If you’re using a personal webpage building system, you need to understand more about RSS. Making an RSS feed from scratch is relatively easy.

A RSS feed should always contain an “item”, whichever version of RSS you might use. If you wrote about a recent event in your city or a book review, the contents of this article can form an item. An item is essentially composed of three things: a title, its description, and link (where they can find your webpage). In choosing a title and description, use something that will describe the web content best. Although it will be easier for you, it doesn’t follow that the title tag of your webpage and the item title are the same.

An item will look like HTML tags. First, you need to put an opening channel tag that defines it as an XML file. Then, label the tag as an item by putting after the channel tag. After this, you can now insert the three essentials of your item: ,
, and
. Just like HTML, we need to close the tag by writing and at the bottom.

An RSS feed that contains multiple tags looks like this:

< ?xml version="1.0"?>

If you haven’t read any Anne Rice books yet, you will be greeted with shocking romantic relationships forming between unlikely characters…

The recently released Harry Potter installation has proved dark for its younger readers…

Now, if you’re still having a hard time understanding these tags, look for HTML tags tutorial to further grasp the concept. Have fun!

Farmville Review: Are You Making Money with Farmville?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Facebook is the second most visited website on the Internet today. The power of Facebook to connect with millions as an MLM marketing strategy is phenomenal. Our trainings help countless MLM Marketers and we show them a step-by-step Blueprint to get their MLM home based business off of the Flatline. There are a multitude of marketing techniques out there to master, and the required tools are there, their success is literally a few clicks away…. WHY AREN’T MLM HOME BUSINESS OWNERS MAKING MORE MONEY???

An upset frend on Facebook sent a message to my inbox last week. He claimed that MLM Online Marketing doesn’t work, he wasn’t getting any traffic and hadn’t got one single lead to talk to about his MLM home based business. I took a quick look at his profile page.

It was filled with Farmville.

I’ve mentioned first impressions before. You only get one opportunity to show that you are a professional and the leadership you offer to your followers. On such huge social networking sites, such as Facebook, everyone is constantly watching. Say I am one of the Million people each week that are trying to research a work from home opportunity and I came across his page, what would I think of him? How likely would I be to begin throwing my hard earned savings into his MLM “opportunity”? Would he be the one I choose to lead me to Online MLM success? Absolutely not.

Farmville has grown faster than any other online game ever, now hosting over 11 Million Farmers in only a few months. We are easily distracted aren’t we? Farmville makes its money by selling virtual items it was shocking to find out that last year’s virtual item sales of online games had been over $2,000,000,000! So not only are millions spending their time on something that adds nothing to their asset column, but also now they are spending Billions of dollars on it too. Wow.

The only reason people will sign up with you is because you offer them leadership and value. If I see that my leader is spending his time on Farmville, is this individual really able to lead to the top? What can this Networker, that is so obviously wasting time, teach me about a home based business? New Networkers are looking for Mentors that can instruct them what they need to do to create wealth. When you Google Toby & Layla, you will not find any Farms… just pure VALUE.

I asked him, how much time is spent milking cows? How long does it take to tend to your crops? After hours of work on your Farm, what are you getting paid?

The MLM strategies that you’ll learn from Toby and I will NOT work themselves while you’re tending your sheepwon’t generate their own results whilst you tend to sheep. We’ve told you this several times but we’ll tell you once more… You must INVEST your time, not just SPEND it.

If you are ready to properly invest your time into your MLM Home Business and get the results that you deserve, you must begin now.

Toby and I have released the most effective Facebook Marketing Strategies to all of our followers, for FREE. So let’s leave the Farm alone and begin to earn real money.

If you are ready to bring your MLM home business off of the Flat Line and learn the Online Marketing Strategies that will take you to the top Click Here. To access more valuable training and content from Toby and Layla Go Here

Tips For Your Affiliate Marketing

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

The best affiliate marketing program will depend on how successfully it is carried out and how well it makes profits in the long run. The more website traffic there is, the more sales there will be. With the affiliate marketing business growing in numbers, there are enough and more affiliate marketing tips that successful entrepreneurs are ready to give the newcomers entering the market. The best affiliate marketing tips come from advice that’s old, yet good enough and packed with survival skills.

Internet is a great place to earn big money. The potential of making it big in the affiliate marketing and home based web business lies in the hard work and commitment a person is willing to make.

One of the most effective affiliate marketing tips a person can get is to have a good website. Content publishing is very important in this stream. The most targeted traffic is search engine traffic. A website that is user-friendly and has unique content, good information, etc and is sure to grab the attention of potential clients will definitely rank you well in different search engines.

Affiliate marketing tips to grab the attention of potential clients would be to have product reviews such as home business reviews for example, have a forum where prospects can have an online discussion with you about the product, its benefits, etc. In addition to it, testimonials of customers that were happy and satisfied with the products could be posted for future reference purposes.

List building is another one of the famous affiliate marketing tips given by successful affiliates. Did you know that each person who makes a visit to your website is very important? Following up on potential clients, having an opt-in box where they could subscribe to newsletters provided by the affiliate can increase your chances of securing a sale.

Trying to promote products to each and every person is time consuming and could be a waste of money. Having a targeted audience and having targeted traffic driving can be stated as another one of the famously noted affiliate marketing tips. Search engines and recognized forums could be perfect places to advertise. PPC search engine web marketing is a great way of increasing revenue, as in most cases the visitor has to simply click on the link for the affiliate to be paid.

There are affiliate marketing networks where affiliates and merchants could get help from. All of the above stated affiliate marketing tips would surely bring you great results if you carry them out in the correct way.

Use Software to get More Traffic

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Let’s face it, we all want more web site traffic and will do
just about anything to get it and that’s where it all starts to
go wrong!

Do you really think that a new software marketing product will
do it all for you, well it may work for so long but when the
search engines find out that’s it back to square one unless you
choose the right Marketing Software.

So how do you set the process in motion, roll up your sleeves
and get going, articles are by far the best way to get good backlinks
to your site and increase your web site traffic and your page
rank.

Let me give you an example of how this works, and trust me it
works a treat to get more web site traffic

Let’s say you write an article called “getting web site traffic”
just like this one, don’t bother how long it takes you to write
the article just do it! your own content is best.

Next I will upload the article to my web site, then submit the
article to the top article directories with software where
people will be looking for new unique content for their sites.
This is where things start to get interesting, my site has say a
page rank 2 but the article directories that I have submitted
the article to may have a page rank 4-5 maybe even 6 and that’s
the whole point of this.

At this point three things happen!

1) Next time the search engines index the article directories
say 15 to 40 of them depending on how many you submitted your
article to, you now have 20 to 50 back links to your site from a
site with a page rank 4 or better that’s enough to take your
site from a PR2 to PR3 which will move all your pages of your
web site up in the rankings and increase your web site traffic.

2) The Article that you wrote may do much good on your site just now, But
that’s because your site does not have a good Page Rank.

I have had Articles that I have submitted to the top ranking
directories, placed in the top three listings with the search
engines for weeks and send me loads of web site traffic and make
me more sales!

The same article on my site was down around page 5 or 6 with the
search engines, that’s because at the time my site only had a PR
of 2.

3) Now this is the bit I really like, if you send in a good
interesting article that’s well written and appealing to others
then these people will use your article for their news letter or
for content on their site.

When people use your article that they have found on a directory
they must leave your link in tact, this means that you can
quickly gain lots of backlinks to your site and improve your
page rank all this from 1 article.

I had one article that I put on EzineArticles.com that gave me
57 backlinks to my site in just 2 weeks, how long would it take
you to get this amount of “relevant” links to your site and how
much work would it take!

Make no mistake about it, this is the quickest method I know to
getting more web site traffic to help your online business, do
yourself a favour and get writing now 1 article per week will do
more for your business than all the other things put together
trust me if your looking to increase your web site traffic this
is how to do it.
